This guide is designed to assist anyone who has investments on Trade Republic and is seeking clarity on how to pay taxes. Trade Republic is a German bank that does not withhold tax for most other countries: capital gains on shares and ETFs (including savings plans), the interest paid on your cash balance, dividends and crypto must be reported by you in your tax return.
If you need to calculate taxes for your Trade Republic investments, you're in the right place! There are several ways to do this, such as calculating taxes manually in Excel, using an automated tax tool like Tax-wizard, or hiring a tax professional. Below we show how to export the right files from Trade Republic.
How to export your Trade Republic history
The recommended format is the Transaction Export (CSV):
- Log in to the Trade Republic app or the web app at app.traderepublic.com.
- Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner and open Statements.
- Select Transaction Export.
- Choose a period that covers your entire account history, since the account was opened, and tap Create.
- Download the generated CSV file.
Alternatively, you can use the Account Statement PDFs or the yearly
tax report that Trade Republic publishes in your profile's document inbox.
Important: upload either the CSV or the PDFs to Tax-wizard.
Never both formats at the same time, or your transactions would be counted twice.
By following these steps, you can ensure you have the correct files needed to use with
Tax-wizard.
From here you can upload them to Tax-wizard and have your tax report ready in minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Trade Republic report my gains to the tax authorities?
Trade Republic does not withhold your local tax or pre-fill your return: reporting is your responsibility. Under the EU automatic exchange of information rules (CRS and, from 2026, DAC8 for crypto), your account data can be shared with your tax authority.
In other words: your tax office may know the account exists, but the capital gains, interest and dividend figures must be calculated and reported by you.
Do I need to declare the interest Trade Republic pays on my cash balance?
Yes. The interest paid on uninvested cash is foreign investment income and must be included in your tax return (in Portugal: Anexo J, Quadro 8-A). If German withholding tax was applied, that amount is also reported to claim the double-taxation credit. Tax-wizard extracts the interest automatically from your Trade Republic files.
How much is your time really worth?
Consider the value of your time and the peace of mind that comes with having a reliable and accurate tool to handle your tax reporting
(payment covers this year's filing for 2025 and prior years, manual renewal next year)
